03 April 2006: - The coolest film around, ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN, melted hearts
around the country to become the biggest 20th Century Fox three day opening (excluding
previews) of all time. It is also the second biggest animated film opening in
South Africa after Shrek 2. The film opened in South Africa last Friday,
31 March with 83 prints and has had many sold-out shows at cinemas over the weekend.
It opened 87% bigger than the opening of Ice Age and is now the third biggest
20th Century Fox opening after Mr. and Mrs. Smith (4-day opening) and Die Another
Day which both included previews. Due to the increase in piracy and various
security concerns, there were no sneak previews before the films release.
It released simultaneously with the US on Friday, grossing $70.5 million for the
domestic opening weekend. The sequel to Ice Age has already surpassed the $118
million mark globally. In ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN, the sub-zero heroes
from the worldwide blockbuster CGI film Ice Age are back Manny
the woolly mammoth, Sid the sloth, Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, and the hapless
prehistoric squirrel/rat known as Scrat. In the new film, the Ice Age is coming
to an end, and the animals are delighting in the melting paradise that is their
new world. Manny, Sid, and Diego quickly learn that the warming climate
has one major drawback: A huge glacial dam holding off oceans of water is about
to break, threatening the entire valley. The only chance of survival lies at the
other end of the valley. So our three heroes, along with new characters such as
Ellie, Crash and Eddie, form the most unlikely family in any Age
as they embark on a mission across an ever-changing, increasingly dangerous
landscape towards their salvation. ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN has everything
you loved about the first movie with even more comedy, action, and spectacular
visuals which were made possible by specific technological advances from Blue
Sky Studios. Our three heroes unyielding friendship lives on with some memorable
new characters thrown into the mix. The result will thaw hearts of all ages.
ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN is distributed by 20th Century Fox internationally and
sub-distributed by Nu Metro Film Distribution in South Africa.

Synopsis: When he won a coveted admission
spot to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, local kid Jake Huard (JAMES FRANCO, "James
Dean") thought all his dreams had come true - but his battle to become the
man he wants to be is only just beginning. Now, uncertain if a regular kid
from a poor blue collar family can fit into the Academy's pressure-cooker atmosphere,
and barely making the grade as a Freshman "plebe," Jake has one last
shot at proving he has what it takes to become an officer in an institution that
boasts a venerable 137-year history of focused discipline and determined excellence.
With nothing left to lose, Jake decides to enter the notoriously fierce Navy boxing
competition known as the Brigade Championships -- and face off against his arch-nemesis,
Midshipman Lt. Cole (TYRESE GIBSON). Everything Jake has ever hoped for stands
in the balance: the chance to make his father proud, to validate his Lieutenant's
faith in him, to stand up for his fellow plebes, and most of all, to forge a different
future. Directed by critically acclaimed indie director Justin Lin ("Better
Luck Tomorrow"), comes this exhilarating comeback story of a courageous young
sailor who discovers that some opportunities in life are worth fighting for. Jake's
fellow classmates are comprised of a dynamic young cast that includes Jordana
Brewster as the alluringly tough, female commander who helps to train Jake; Donnie
Wahlberg as Lt. Cmdr. Burton, the officer who first decides to take a chance on
Jake; and Chi McBride as the boxing coach who takes Jake from amateur swinger
to focused warrior.

Time: 118 Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman Produced By:CAROLINE BARON Directed
By: BENNETT MILLER Synopsis: In November, 1959, Truman Capote (Philip
Seymour Hoffman), the author of Breakfast at Tiffany's and a favorite figure in
what is soon to be known as the Jet Set, reads an article on a back page of the
New York Times. It tells of the murders of four members of a well-known farm family-the
Clutters-in Holcomb, Kansas. Similar stories appear in newspapers almost every
day, but something about this one catches Capote's eye. It presents an opportunity,
he believes, to test his long-held theory that, in the hands of the right writer,
non-fiction can be as compelling as fiction. What impact have the murders had
on that tiny town on the wind-swept plains? With that as his subject-for his purpose,
it does not matter if the murderers are never caught-he convinces The New Yorker
magazine to give him an assignment and he sets out for Kansas. Accompanying him
is a friend from his Alabama childhood: Harper Lee (Catherine Keener), who within
a few months will win a Pulitzer Prize and achieve fame of her own as the author
of To Kill a Mockingbird.
Though his childlike voice, fey mannerisms and
unconventional clothes arouse initial hostility in a part of the country that
still thinks of itself as part of the Old West, Capote quickly wins the trust
of the locals, most notably Alvin Dewey (Chris Cooper), the Kansas Bureau of Investigation
agent who is leading the hunt for the killers. Caught in Las Vegas, the killers-Perry
Smith (Clifton Collins Jr.) and Dick Hickock (Mark Pellegrino)-are returned to
Kansas, where they are tried, convicted and sentenced to die. Capote visits them
in jail. As he gets to know them, he realizes that what he had thought would be
a magazine article has grown into a book, a book that could rank with the greatest
in modern literature. His subject is now as profound as any an American writer
has ever tackled. It is nothing less than the collision of two Americas: the safe,
protected country the Clutters knew and the rootless, amoral country inhabited
by their killers. Hidden behind Capote's often frivolous fa?ade is a writer of
towering ambition.
